SUBJECT: BOOKLET, JAPANESE SUBMACHING GUNS

My manuscript on Japanese machine guns “Dragons of Fire” is progressing somewhat slowly.
It is exhausting work with the many subjects of research and limited documentation; all to be
sorted between fact and supposition There have been past authors who have copied documents
and added their own conjecture which just increases the distance between “what is” and ”what
isn’t”.

I have finished my section on submachine guns and decided to release it in booklet form in
advance of the complete works. Being in my fourth quarter, I feel it is important to publicize some
of those sections I have completed for the interested to absorb.

This section starts with the beginning in the 1920’s when the Japanese military directed some
attention toward the need/use of the submachine gun. They obtained samples of foreign
weapons and captured specimens from their wars with China for research and study. It continues
into the first prototypes by Tokyo Artillery Arsenal and proceeds forward with the Kijiro Nambu
designs and his company’s presentation, trials and into production of the final design fitting the
military need. There are some interesting features along the way; some new, some not. All are
detailed and explained with sketches and patents.

The booklet contains 74 pages of the history, classification of various models, patterns and types
accompanied by specifications. There are over 100 photos and sketches; some in color. Several
patents are also included for the reference along with Government documents and eyewitness
accounts. Serial numbering and dating of prototypes and production weapons are presented
from an evidence documented database.
